Free home checks available for older people

Older people living in Newcastle-under-Lyme and the Staffordshire Moorlands can get a free winter home check from the Revival Home Improvement Agency.

Revival, part of the Staffordshire Housing Group, has teamed up with the area’s district councils to provide a service designed to give residents peace of mind this winter.

The scheme is aimed at home owners and some private housing tenants aged 60 or over who meet certain criteria.

They will be eligible for a free home service which includes:

Gutter, downspout and gully cleaning up to two metres high

Stop taps, and outside taps, inspection

Work to check lagging of pipework in attics and other home cold spots

A check on loft insulation and advice on whether more is needed

Clearance of leaves from pathways

Inspection of water and header tanks to ensure ball valves are working and overflows are clear.

Christina Timmis, Revival Home Improvement Manager, said: “We recognise that many older residents worry about the effect of icy conditions on their homes.

“This service, provided with funding from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, will help reassure residents this winter.”

To find out if you can get a free homecheck, local residents can call 01782 749202.
