Established West Midlands insurance specialists HGR is reporting growth as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.
And the Stourbridge business insurance brokers is making a stand for the family firm at a time when the insurance industry is awash with mergers.
Martyn Tanner, Managing Director, of HGR Insurance Brokers, said: “While we are proud to celebrate a significant landmark in our 40th anniversary we are equally determined to look to the future.
“The insurance industry has seen any mergers in recent years as the big names swallow up local firms.
“HGR has made a board level decision to retain its independence and not go down the merger path. We are proud of the loyalty of our clients – many of them have been with us since the start – and we believe in providing a high level of service to meet their needs.
“The competition is fierce and businesses can opt to go on-line for an off the shelf solution. But our philosophy is that companies need a specific solution to fit their needs.
”It might be easy to log on and buy, but companies may only discover that they haven’t got the correct cover when things go wrong.”
Mr Tanner acknowledged that the global recession had affected many firms across the Dudley and Stourbridge area, resulting in a lower need for less business insurance.
But he said that HGR had emerged from the recession in good shape and had maintained staffing levels.
Two new account executives and one account handler have joined the business in the summer months to replace former members of the 15 strong team.
HGR Insurance traces its roots back to September 1970 when Stewart and Rogers (Insurance Brokers) Ltd was formed. The company subsequently merged with another regional insurance broker, Harrod and Gall Ltd, in 1989, and the combined firm changed it’s name to HGR Insurance Brokers Ltd.
Director and Company Secretary Michael Rogers provides a direct link to the founding families behind the company.
