A fresh approach to family law has seen Jo Johnson establish her business as she celebrates its first anniversary.

An experienced family lawyer, Jo Johnson founded her own firm in 2015 in Cheddleton, Staffordshire.

“For many, the trauma of a divorce or a separation can be compounded by both the adversarial way that UK law handles divorce and the way that lawyers work, forcing people to meet in impersonal city centre offices at a time convenient to the lawyers.

“I am a passionate advocate of a conciliatory approach to divorce and I’m flexible in the way I work with clients.”

Jo is a longstanding member of Resolution, a group of lawyers who promote non-confrontational divorce and separation where at all possible.

Consultations with clients are often conducted on neutral ground rather than in an office environment.

“I have had a successful year since establishing Jo Johnson Family Law and I believe this is partly due to the way I work with my clients,” said Jo. “I’m happy to meet a client in their home or at a place they feel comfortable.  I can also offer appointments in the evening to avoid the need to take time off work.

“Divorce can be extremely painful and it is important to make people as comfortable as possible so that they can talk freely. In a recent case, I met a client outside the usual working hours at their home whilst the children were looked after by a family member.”

Based in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Jo has a family farming background and believes this has also helped establish her business. Divorce, or separation, in a farming family is often extremely complicated as the home and business life can be inextricably linked.
