New scheme to help older residents make vital home repairs

A scheme which may help to keep older and vulnerable residents safe and secure in their homes has been launched by a North Staffordshire based home improvement agency.

Revival Home Improvement Agency is working with Just Retirement Solutions Limited to help some home owners undertake vital house repairs through equity release plans, following the demise of the Kick Start scheme.

A multi-local authority project delivered in North Staffordshire by Revival HIA, Kick Start provided low cost finance for vital repairs with the loan secured against the equity in the property which was being improved.

Withdrawal of Government backing for Kick Start has left some home owners without savings with no realistic way of improving their ageing properties.

Martin Peake, who is coordinating the new scheme at Revival, said : “North Staffordshire has an ageing housing stock. The withdrawal of the Kick Start scheme left many residents without any realistic option to fund vital repairs.”

“Working with Just Retirement Solutions means that we can offer a solution to some older and vulnerable residents in North Staffordshire.”

Equity release allows people to unlock some of the cash tied up in their home, tax-free.

Revival will refer eligible clients to Just Retirement Solutions who will then work with carefully selected product providers. They will always discuss any downsides with clients considering equity release, and ensure clients fully understand these before they make any final decisions.  There are three main eligibility criteria: Clients must be over 55; must own their own home and their home must be worth £70,000 or more.

If clients take up a loan, Revival will charge a flat fee of £1,000 which covers vital work including: specifying the work; tendering; engaging a trusted contractor; overseeing the job from start to finish; inspecting the job after completion.

Anyone interested in enquiring about having works funded via Just Retirement Solutions Limited should contact Revival on 01782 749202.
