An experienced North Staffordshire insurance broker has gone back to his roots to fulfil an ambition to serve businesses in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
James Miller has founded Miller Commercial Brokers in his home village of Alton.
And James’ passion to get involved in local business has led him to call on several North Staffordshire businesses during preparations for the company launch.
Work is almost complete on the restoration of Alton’s disused former Methodist Chapel where Miller Commercial Brokers will set up offices together with Andrew Knight, a Chartered Financial Planner.
The chapel, a prominent and historic building on the village High Street, was last used as a base for Alton’s Homing Pigeon Society and had fallen into disrepair.
“I grew up in Alton and like many local teenagers had my first taste of employment at Alton Towers, so it feels great to be setting up my business in my home village,” said James.
“It also fits in well with my belief that the best way to win and maintain clients is to build a long term relationship based on trust. Where ever possible we have used people we have worked with in business to help with the renovation work and other requirements in setting up Miller Commercial Brokers.”
As well as calling on the help of James’s father, an experienced builder, to lead the renovation work, James and Andrew commissioned the services of HC Architects, of Cheadle, and Dendrite Fabrications, of Leek, and Prolec Midlands Ltd, of Rocester, to work on the office building.
Further service providers include UK Business IT and Yellow Circle Web Solutions, both based in Stoke-on-Trent.
With a combined experience in the financial and insurance industry in North Staffordshire of over 40 years, James and Andrew have primarily built up contacts through business networking.
James added: “I met all my suppliers in this way and have set up Miller Commercial Brokers with a belief that face to face contact and service can give me the edge over the corporate, increasingly internet based competition. I strongly believe that traditional business and insurance broker practices are as relevant as ever.”
