An award winning North Staffordshire roofing company is using a cash boost to branch out into green technology.
Rydale Roofing took joint first place in the recent Newcastle-under-Lyme Business Boost competition.
Now the Keele Road based company is to offer the latest photo-voltaic roofing panels to customers for the first time.
Rydale Roofing was set up by Mick and Julie Mirowski in 1993. It provides work for 10 roofers, all from the Newcastle area.
Rydale has continued to trade successfully through the recession and, earlier this year, won a major contract to re-roof homes in the local area for Newcastlebased Aspire Housing.
Rydale’s success helped the company to scoop the £2,000 first prize in the 2010 Business Boost.
Julie Mirowski said: “It has been a great year for Rydale. Winning a contract with Aspire was a major achievement and to cap the year off with first place in the Business Boost was a great honour.
“We plan to use the prize money to launch our investment in photo-voltaic panels.
“Many customers are now switched on to the need to take care of the environment and to save energy.
And the new Feed-in Tariffs for energy mean that people can save money through the generation of solar power.”

Notes to Editors:
Rydale Roofing was launched after Mick, a former miner, lost his job during the pit closure programme in the early 1990s.
The company takes on any size of roofing work from a small leak in an individual home to major contracts and sub-contracts.
Rydale Roofing won the “micro business” category in the Newcastle-under-Lyme Business Boost competition. Business Boost is an annual awards scheme sponsored by the public and private sectors to encourage entrepreneurship and job creation among companies in the borough of Newcastle, Staffordshire.
