A bold decision to buck the trend for bigger city centre-based law firms is paying dividends for Clowes & Co.

Sarah Clowes and Alexandra Finney are celebrating a successful first year at their base in Baddeley Green, Stoke-on-Trent.

The lawyers made a conscious decision to open as a community law firm and to offer an open-door policy for local residents.

“The first year has flown by and we feel we have established a firm base on which to grow,” said Sarah. “When we made the decision to launch Clowes & Co we committed to open a community law practice, deliberately based away from the city centre or large business parks.”

Clowes & Co set up home in the former Britannia Building Society offices in a row of shops on Baddeley Green Lane.

Sarah said: “We welcome people who want to drop in with their queries. We believe in making the process of seeing a solicitor as easy and as comfortable as possible and are happy to talk.”

Clowes & Co used the space available in the former banking hall to create a welcoming reception with comfortable seating and toys for children.

The law firm has also used their services to give back to good causes, supporting the local Douglas Macmillan and Donna Louise Hospices and using a Will Aid scheme to encourage aid to the Midlands Air Ambulance.

“We feel that we have established Clowes & Co as a fixture in the north of Stoke-on-Trent,” added Sarah. “Our clients come from a wide area of Stoke-on-Trent and the Staffordshire Moorlands but we have also developed a strong local clientele in the Baddeley Green, Stockton Brook and Endon area.”

Sarah, from Bagnall, has 14 years of experience as a solicitor and specialises in wills, trusts and estate planning and family law. Alexandra, is a property law specialist and qualified as a solicitor three years ago. They head a wider team of five, working with office manager Kim Hughes, paralegal Toni Brazier and PA Fiona Parkes.

Where possible we provide a fixed fee, cost-effective service to allow people to budget. We utilise modern IT systems to speed up the process and work closely with our clients to ensure their objectives are achieved.
