Three charities will benefit when one of England’s greatest ever Rugby Union players speaks in North Staffordshire.

Rory Underwood will head the entertainment at the BNI Staffordshire sportsman’s dinner at Alton Towers on 1st July, 2022.

Money raised at the event will be split between the HELP Appeal (County Air Ambulance Helipad Appeal), Approach Dementia Support and Cancer Research UK – via well-known local fundraiser Ada Haywood.

BNI is an international business networking organisation with a strong presence in Staffordshire.

Executive Director Tony Altham said: “The event has been specially organised to recognise the important work of three of our charity members.

“Lesley Knight represents HELP at our Stafford meeting, Louise Eagle of Approach networks with our Leek James Brindley group and Ada Haywood BEM attends weekly meetings in Newcastle-under-Lyme with our Britannia chapter on behalf of Cancer Research UK

“All three work tirelessly for great causes and the dinner is a way for local business people to celebrate their success and raise more funds. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to bring three great causes together in this way.

“This event is an opportunity for local business people to network while enjoying dinner in the company of a British sporting legend.”

Rory Underwood scored a record 49 tries in 85 appearances for England between 1984 and 1996 and was also capped by the British and Irish Lions.

He repeatedly features near the top of polls for England’s greatest winger.

Underwood was an RAF pilot, as Rugby Union was still an amateur sport in his playing days.

He played 236 times for Leicester Tigers, one of England’s top clubs.

The evening will feature musical entertainment, from Sweet Sensations and a DJ, and there will be a three course dinner.
