FunkyWunkyDooDahs wins customer service award by design

Excellent customer service standards have led to Staffordshire company FunkyWunky DooDahs Inspired Designed Interiors scooping an international interior design award.

Run by Sandra Johnson, the Gaol Mews, Stafford, company was founded after the former pharmaceutical sales executive decided to follow her passion and flare for great design.

“I visited an antique centre, where there were several small companies trading from small units, and I said to a friend that I’d love to do that. She said, what would you sell? I said, “funky things..funky wunky doo dahs,” explained Sandra.

The name stuck and, after Sandra trialled the business for a few weeks on Stafford market, sourcing and selling high quality designer brand fabrics, FunkyWunkyDooDahs was born.

Now FunkyWunkyDooDahs has won a Best of Houzz award. The Stafford interior design firm was singled-out for customer service excellence following an assessment of feedback from the 40 million-plus monthly unique users that comprise the Houzz community.

More than 2.1 million active home building, renovating and design industry professionals have a presence on the international Houzz website.

“I pride myself on the high standards of service that I give to customers, so this independent customer service award is incredibly satisfying,” said Sandra.

Best Of Houzz is awarded annually in three categories: Design, Customer Service and Photography. The Customer Service honour is based on several factors, including the number and quality of client reviews a professional received in 2018.

A “Best Of Houzz 2019” badge will appear on FunkyWunkyDooDahs’ Houzz profile, as a sign of their commitment to excellence. These badges help homeowners identify popular and top-rated home professionals.

Marcus Hartwall, Managing Director of Houzz UK and Ireland, said: “We’re so pleased to award Best of Houzz 2019 to this incredible group of talented and customer-focused professionals, including FunkyWunkyDooDahs.”

“I have always had an eye for how designs fit well together and an understanding of how items are made and I probably get that from my Mum, who was an accomplished seamstress,” added Sandra.

The FunkyWunkyDooDahs studio, in the attractive courtyard at Gaol Mews, Stafford, has a full range of designer fabrics, lighting, wall covering, accessories and other interior design pieces. As Sandra regularly holds consultations with potential clients in their homes, it is generally best to arrange a time to visit, rather than simply dropping in.

Sandra said: “My passion for the business is driven by the ability to give customers the chance to include beautiful design items that are generally unavailable on the High Street in their home or commercial building. Contacts with fabric companies means we can source extra special items designed to give homes the special WOW-factor.

“Clients typically come from across the Midlands and Cheshire, but we receive enquiries from all around the UK. Customers searching online are a regular source of business, together with referrals from architects and property companies.

“For example, an architect designed home may have unusual, large windows and there is a need to look at getting the shading and privacy right, while dressing the windows with striking drapes, curtains or blinds.

“I am skilled at looking at a room plan and giving styling and practical advice about how to make a house into a home. Good design combines the knowledge of how space works, with creative flare.”
