German foodies box clever with Woolcool

Food packaging innovators Woolcool are riding a new trend of online food buying in Germany.
The Stone based company’s environmentally friendly packaging has become the product of choice for German online food retailers.
Woolcool has taken on a German sales person as awareness of its packaging grows in mainland Europe.
“While the online mail order food sector has been strong for some time now in the UK, it has only recently taken off in Germany,” said Woolcool Managing Director, Keith Spilsbury.
“Several German companies are looking to the UK to see how companies package and deliver food and are referencing some of our customers such as Abel & Cole and Hello Fresh.
“As a result, Woolcool is establishing a reputation as the packaging product of choice for online German food retailers. Both companies and consumers in Germany regard environmentally friendly packaging as a major priority and Woolcool ticks all of their boxes.”
Woolcool established its first production and distribution site on the Walton Industrial Estate in July and has rapidly grown its staff from 25 to 40 as demand for its unique environmentally friendly packaging grows.
Using 100 per cent pure, clean wool that is too coarse for clothing or other textiles, the company has devised a unique and innovative way of keeping medicines and food cool for longer.

Keith explained: “A Woolcool lined box keeps perishable products cooler for longer than man-made polystyrene. Unlike polystyrene, the packs are easily reusable and recyclable.

“The wool fleece we use is too coarse for use in clothing, and we are, therefore, providing an extremely practical use for what might otherwise be seen as a waste material.”

Notes to Editors:

Woolcool was launched in 2008 and the innovative, sustainable design has scooped an impressive haul of awards in the packaging, business and environmental arenas. Woolcool remains the only range of sheep’s wool insulated packaging available on a commercial scale.

Woolcool is the brainchild of the multi award-winning packaging designer, Angela Morris, a leading innovator in the packaging industry.

Angela first began researching and developing insulated packaging using sheep’s wool in 2002, proving wool to offer the high performance, natural, eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to man-made polymers.
