Electrical company owner Mark Bennett has celebrated a decade of growth at H&B Electrical Services with a six-figure investment in new premises, giving the company room for further expansion.
In 10 years, the electrician from Trentham has taken H&B Electrical Services from one man with a van to a full-time team of 12, with its portfolio of work transitioning to include regular contracts with some of North Staffordshire’s best-known employers.
Now Mark has invested in the future, carrying-out extensive refurbishment work on a former Britannia Building Society branch on High Street, Chesterton, creating a purpose-built headquarters for H&B.
“As a company H&B has moved forward rapidly in the past five years and we have completely outgrown our former unit at Brampton Sidings, Newcastle,” said Mark. “I have overseen the design of the new building to include well equipped offices for the team and a meeting room where we can bring in clients to discuss new projects, complete with the latest video conferencing technology linked to a large screen.
“I’m proud of the development and it demonstrates what we have accomplished in recent years, taking the company from its original role of fulfilling small domestic jobs to working on regular contracts for larger businesses, such as DJH, Lucideon, Broxap, large care homes, and Pets at Home, with headquarters in Cheshire.
“We have up to the minute computer aided design capabilities and our new technical visual display allows us to walk companies through our plans, communicating what they need and how we will achieve it. Our fully qualified team allow us to fully manage projects, from design to completion.”
“We’re looking to take on more maintenance contracts for large companies, allowing us to continue to grow our team.”
Mark began his career as an apprentice in Stoke-on-Trent before eventually striking out as a jobbing electrician before founding H&B.
He said: “I am delighted to say that we have been able to grow organically. We haven’t had to take on loan debt and that remains the case as the new premises are personally owned by me and Helen, my wife, as part of our pension plans.”
But there’s no plans to dip into that pension pot any time soon with Mark adding, “I’m 50 next year but I still get the same buzz out of work as I did 20 years ago when I first went self-employed.”
At around 1,250 sq. ft., the new H&B offices are more than double the size of the company’s former premises, but Mark said: “I wanted a building we could grow into and, having been at Brampton Sidings since 2016, I wanted to stay within Newcastle Borough, so this building is ideal for us. Its location is perfect for us to service our customers in both the Midlands and North West.”
