HEARING ADVICE DAY OFFERS COMPENSATION HOPE FOR BRISTOL WORKERS

A Hearing Advice Day is to be held on Friday for all workers in Bristol and surrounding areas who may have been exposed to excessive noise at work.

Attwood Solicitors, specialist Noise Induced Hearing Loss Solicitors, have had great success in helping workers in shipyards and in other heavy industries across England and Wales.

The Bristol Hearing Advice Day will run from 10am to 4pm at the Mercure Bristol Holland Hotel and Spa, Redcliffe Hill, Bristol, on Friday, 27 January.

Qualified audiologists will be on hand to conduct free of charge hearing tests.

Principal Solicitor Ashley Atwood said: “We have been working on cases in the North of England and the South West Ports and, every time we hold a free Hearing Advice Day, demand is high.

“Many workers who experienced hearing loss while working in extremely noisy environments have simply put up with it.

“Often people suffer in silence and don’t believe they have a right to compensation for the pain and inconvenience caused to them.

The event is open to anyone who believes they have suffered hearing loss while at work, regardless of the industry involved.

Attwood Solicitors works closely with audiologists Hear4U and Dr Grant Charlesworth Jones, a GP who specialises in industrial injury cases.

Dr Charlesworth Jones said: “My work with Attwood Solicitors is raising awareness of a major issue.  For many years workers had their hearing damaged because employers failed to provide adequate protection.

“However, people have tended to just put up with hearing loss and put it down to getting older.

“In my experience people are reticent about coming forward – but they should be compensated and the law provides for that.”

Hearing experts say any sounds above 80 decibels is considered dangerous and many older people are now suffering from damage caused before current health and safety standards were introduced.

Eighty decibels is about the equivalent of an average alarm clock going off.
