New award to honour Stoke-on-Trent’s Arts Volunteer of the Year

A new award is set to honour Stoke-on-Trent’s Arts Volunteer of the Year.

Nominations for the award are being sought by Appetite in partnership with 6 Towns Radio. Appetite is a £3m Arts Council England programme that aims to get more people from Stoke-on-Trent to experience and be inspired by the arts.

The winner will be unveiled at the 6 Towns Radio awards event to be held at the Mitchell Arts Centre, Hanley, on 22 January, 2014.

“We want to recognise a volunteer who has worked to support the arts in the city during 2013.  It is an opportunity for people to thank and acknowledge the commitment of volunteers across the city.,” said Gary Cicinskas of Appetite.

Nominations can be made by logging on to the 6 Towns Radio website via the following link: http://www.6towns.co.uk/arts-volunteer-year-conjunction-appetite.html#.UsWAG6V5j40

Community radio station, 6 Towns Radio, will be holding their third annual awards ceremony in January.  The event highlights the achievements of a diverse range of people who have made a difference to life in Stoke-on-Trent during the previous 12 months.

Gary added: “Gary added: “Our involvement with the 6 Towns Radio awards is part of a larger tie in with the radio station. We have agreed to sponsor programmes on the station during 2014.

“6 Towns is staffed by volunteers who are putting something back into their local communities and this connects with the ethos of Appetite to empower local communities to get involved in the arts.

Rob Ledgar of 6 Towns Radio said: “We are delighted by the support we are receiving from Appetite. This will lead to regular promotion of Appetite events on 6 Towns Radio and the Arts Volunteer of the Year Award.

“We have been champions of the Arts and feature them on Leeka’s Kulture Klub every Wednesday afternoon. We want to hear local people’s stories about the arts volunteers who help across Stoke-on-Trent’s communities and we will be featuring some of these stories on 6 Towns Radio as we move on to 87.7FM from 20 January.”
