Pandemic support leads to national award recognition for Staffordshire commercial finance experts

Commercial Finance Specialists Beta CF have been shortlisted for two prestigious national awards, including one for their support to businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Alton, Staffordshire, company were able to broker deals to sustain companies and create jobs – even when the traditional “High Street” lenders couldn’t help.
In one case, Beta’s intervention led to the regeneration of the former Eagle Works, a former pot bank with parts dating back to 1859.
The building is now home to C2 Construction, who have set up home there and are creating 15 units to let to other companies.
Tom Wilkinson, Director and founder, of Beta Commercial Finance said: “The banking market has changed and it’s not always easy to simply go to the bank. Many people remember the time when a company owner would have had a named bank manager they could consult on a regular basis.”
“With C2, the initial lender pulled out once the pandemic hit but we were able to negotiate a new funding package despite the difficult market.”
This case has led to Beta Commercial Finance being shortlisted for the Covid Recovery Award by the NACFB, the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers. Beta is also shortlisted for the SME Champion Award.
The winners will be announced at an awards dinner, which will be held at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham, on Friday, 23 September.
The NACFB say the shortlist was determine by an impartial judging panel made up of 13 industry experts,
Tom said: “It’s especially pleasing to be shortlisted for our pandemic efforts and for supporting small and medium sized businesses. Clearly, many went through a traumatic time during Covid-19 and it feels good to have been able to help some good companies to weather the pandemic storm – something no company owners or managers could have ever predicted.
With a background in commercial banking, Tom founded Beta five years ago and has a team of four with offices in the heart of his home village of Alton.
Beta CF has supported companies across a wide range of sectors, such as property developers, printers, shop and gym owners allowing money to be invested into the economy and the creation or safeguarding of around 300 jobs.
