Peak demand for Vintage at Derbyshire events

Derbyshire is set fair for a Summer of Vintage as traders set up their stalls in three well known venues.

Fair organisers, The Vintage Suitcase, have reported high demand for pitches at the three events in Matlock, Buxton and Bakewell.

Now organisers Allison Elkes and Gemma Miller are hoping to attract large crowds to the fairs in June, July and August.

Riding on a crest of a wave of popularity for all things vintage, all stalls at the Imperial Rooms, Matlock, and Bakewell Town Hall have already been snapped up and there is only limited availability for the event at the Dome, Buxton.

“We have always loved the vintage scene and it seems that people cannot get enough of it right now,” said Gemma.

“We chosen the three Derbyshire towns because they are full of character and the response has been phenomenal.

“As a result, we are hoping to make vintage fairs a regular event and would like to think they will help boost visitor numbers to the towns.”

Vintage traders generally deal in clothing, furniture, houseware and memorabilia from the 1920s to the 1980s.

Demand for Vintage has exploded in recent years as people rediscover the fashions loved by their parents and grandparents from a seemingly more innocent age.

“We are bringing an eclectic mix of authentic vintage clothing for men and women, re-worked clothing and vintage inspired pieces,” explained Allison.

“Visitors to the fairs will also find a wide selection of furniture and homeware, accessories and jewellery.”

The dates and venues for the Summer of Vintage are:

  • The Imperial Rooms, Matlock, Saturday, 15 June
  • The Dome, Buxton, Sunday, 28 July
  • Bakewell Town Hall, Wednesday, 7 August.

The Vintage Suitcase is the first joint business venture for friends Allison and Gemma, who both live just over the border in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
