A highly acclaimed book on leadership by North Staffordshire’s Danny Wareham has been shortlisted by The Business Book Awards as the leadership book of the year.
Organisational psychologist Danny is seeing stars following the success of Constellation. He has been invited to host a Meet the Author event by The Institute of Leadership, an organisation regarded globally as the home of leadership excellence.
Constellation, released in late 2025, broke new ground as the first business and leadership book to ask the question ‘who leads when the leader is not in the room?’
Danny said: “The response has been incredible, with many five-star reviews, opportunities to speak on various business podcasts, and being named in the Top 50 Thought Leader list by Thinkers360, being namechecked in HR Magazine’s ‘Best of HR Books’ for December, and a nomination in the 2026 Business Book Awards.
Danny, from Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, first set out his thoughts on ‘leaderless’ leadership while working towards his Master’s degree in psychology in 2021.
He explained: “Traditional leadership models are based on the idea of the leader as an individual hero; the visionary chief executive, the decisive manager, the charismatic figurehead.
“I start with the question who leads when the leader isn’t in the room? For companies, Constellation leadership means you don’t have to have the leader in the room to get things done.”
It isn’t just theory. Constellation includes case studies and interviews with the British Army, NASA’s astronaut training manager for the Challenger Shuttle, and cutting-edge software development teams.
Danny, Managing Director of Firgun Ltd. has helped scores of company owners, from micro-businesses to LEGO and WorldPay to build purposeful, people-focused workplaces.
Founded in 2021, Firgun is committed to fostering high performing teams through leadership and culture.
Danny is well known as a speaker on business and culture across the UK.
Constellation is available from UK bookshops, including Waterstones and Foyles, and online, and is on sale in the USA via Barnes & Noble, Booktopia, and Walmart stores in the US and Canada.
