Staffordshire-based Not For Profit fundraising experts set sights on helping companies to unlock grant opportunities

Fundraising specialists Heaward Solutions have set their sights on helping companies to leverage grant aid after supporting not for profit organisations to capture more than £38 million to support community, sport, and charity work.

The North Staffordshire based consultancy believe many small and medium sized companies miss out because they don’t know where to find sources of funding and lack the expertise to win grants.

Heaward Solutions is led by Andrew Heaward who founded Heaward Solutions Ltd in 1997 with more than 20-year experience in public sector leisure and grant funding sectors. He said: “Our primary focus will remain on the not-for-profit sector but there’s scope for my team to support companies by using our knowledge, insight, and tools. The Heaward team now has five staff.

“Many companies are looking to take advantage of the various funding pots held by government departments, local authorities, and others, but have little or no in house expertise, let alone a strategy,” Andrew said. “Yet securing the right funding is as much about strategy as it is about need. There are thousands of grant opportunities available in the UK every year and finding and selecting the right ones to pursue is crucial, not just for success rates but also for building meaningful, long-term relationships with funders.”

Heaward Solutions can help companies to understand the funding market, help identify the right opportunities, write, or review bids, and provide insights into what funding bodies expect from applicants.

Andrew has developed a set of tools which he uses to aid clients. these include Insight, a monitoring and evaluation app which is currently used by not for profits to collect and analyse data. Together with his team at Heaward Solutions, Andrew provides mentoring support for clients.

Added Andrew: “We are a purpose led business set up to support and improve communities through providing the know-how they need to gain essential funding. Our strategy-led approach has proved a major success for many charities and community interest companies, and this can be mirrored with SME business.

“Securing grant funding can boost any business but the process is time-consuming and can be complex. At Heaward Solutions, we can support companies to put repeatable processes in place to ensure companies approach gaining grant support in a consistent and strategic way.”

Many of Heaward Solutions’ success stories have happened close to home, with examples including working with Goldenhill-based Just Families CIC, Ladsandads football to develop facility at Trubshaw Cross, Stoke-on-Trent, and the Rudyard Lake Trust to fund a new canoe store and launch canoe and paddle board hire, and Rural Brew, a micro-brewery in Alton.
