Staffordshire financial advisers keep it in the family as tributes are paid to David Nicholson on his retirement

A Newcastle-under-Lyme financial services practice is entering a new era following the retirement of David Nicholson.

David’s son in law Danny Hattersley has taken the reins at the Lymedale Business Centre based St James’s Place. It will be renamed as Danny Hattersley Financial Management.  Beth Hattersley, Danny’s wife and David’s daughter, is joining the business.

“I have worked as a financial advisor at Nicholson Wealth Management for almost five years, and David has been the perfect mentor,” Danny said.  “Moving forward, we will see evolution, not revolution, retaining the same values of providing the highest quality of customer service, and building on our strong foundations.

“We live in an ever-changing world and one of my major aims will be to communicate and connect more with clients. I have a passion for going out and educating business leaders and staff about financial management, investments, and pensions, with practical, achievable tips and advice.”

Nicholson Wealth Management has provided a valuable service to customers for over a decade and David has worked in financial services since 1996, having served as a financial advisor in North Staffordshire for NatWest.

Now Danny has decided to move away from the word ‘wealth’ in the business name. He sees this subtle change as significant, explaining: “I’m from a new generation of financial advisors who aren’t necessarily from a bank background. I worked in trades before retraining and joining David in the family business in 2021.

“For some, the word wealth may have connotations. Yes, we have wealthy individuals as customers, and we will continue to serve them well,  but I firmly believe great financial advice is for everyone.

“I’m in my early thirties and have children. Until recently I played football regularly for Redgate Clayton FC, and that also give me an insight into younger people and their attitudes towards saving, There are perceived barriers when it comes to seeking financial advice, some people do see it as a service for people as they hit middle age, and that perception has to be tackled..

“We all benefit from good financial management and the earlier we all consider saving, no matter how big or small the amount we can afford, the better.

“Throughout the existence of Nicholson Wealth Management we have always welcomed everyone. Our door is always open and our business is built on excellent customer service values.”

Customers and business friends joined David, Danny, and Beth, at Trentham Park Golf Club for a celebration of David’s career and a relaunch event.

The new Danny Hattersley Financial Planning signage and logo were unveiled for the first time.

Danny Hattersley Financial Management specialise in pensions for companies and individuals, and protection services, including  income protection.
