Students advised to act now to get a job as prospects hit a seven year high

The graduate job market is on the up but students leaving university need to act now to get the pick of the vacancies.

Claire Leigh, Managing Director, of Brampton Recruitment, says more firms are set to recruit graduates thanks to the recent up-turn in the UK economy.

Brampton Recruitment will be advising final year students at a graduate job fair at Keele University this week (Wednesday, 19 February).

“It is a good time to be graduating,” said Claire. “The trend for graduate recruitment is up as companies return to the jobs market with confidence.

“The results of two surveys into graduate recruitment have been published in the last few weeks. One predicts 2014 graduate recruitment will be the highest in seven years and the second predicts a 10 per cent growth.”

“The opportunities are out there but experience shows that to get the pick of the jobs students need to act now. Those students leaving their job search until summer will miss out.”

The 10 per cent growth prediction comes from research for the Association of Graduate Recruiters. Meanwhile, a survey of 100 leading companies by High Fliers research predicted more than 18,000 graduate jobs would be advertised this summer – the highest level since 2007.

The High Fliers survey also points to the need for graduates to get work experience in the industry they want to make a career in.

The Keele Graduate Careers Fair on 19 February offers students the opportunity to speak to a wide range of employers.
