SyTech’s growth allows company to develop future IT engineers

Staffordshire-based SyTech IT has capped years of growth by taking on the IT engineers of the future.

From a start-up based at the former home of MD Darren Kirby in late 2015, SyTech has grown to a team of 11 with offices at the Business Lodge, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent.

Having worked at Managing Director level in IT,  Darren set up SyTech with two major ambitions; to bring big business IT solutions to Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), and to bring forward future IT engineers.

Darren said: “We believe that SyTech provides the best-in-class solutions to our customers, but it was always the case that bringing forward the IT engineers of the future could only be done by achieving business growth.

“Realistically, we could only provide the highest quality work experience and mentorship when we had the office space and a level of staff with capacity to support young students.

“Now we have been able to bring two exceptional teenagers through from our work experience programme on to our team.”

Theo Tomkins joins SyTech as an apprentice, aged 16, while 18-year-old Oliver Powell has joined as a junior member of the SyTech service desk team.

Theo is learning on the job four days a week and spending a fifth day in the SyTech office completing distance learning.

On his four workdays, Theo is part of the first line service alongside Oliver, receiving mentoring and guidance from Darren and his senior team.

Darren explained: “Both Oliver and Theo play a vital role taking initial calls from our customers and working with our engineers to problem solve.

“Major issues are escalated to our senior engineers. But it is crucial that both get experience at the sharp end, fully understanding our processes and high-level customer service standards. They are learning at the sharp end as part of our team which always arrives for excellence in customer service.

“Welcoming Theo and Oliver to SyTech is a landmark for me as I always had an ambition to create jobs in North Staffordshire and to mentor our future IT engineers.

Theo is a former pupil of Endon High School, and lives at Norton Heights, Stoke-on-Trent, while Oliver, from Blurton, attended Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy and Newcastle-under-Lyme College.

Darren said the company were aiming for further steady growth in 2025 and this should lead to further opportunities to employ new starters.

“Growth at SyTech has always been organic; our team grows in line with client acquisition” added Darren.

“Our core business is with customers in the West and East Midlands and North West England, but we work with several companies with offices overseas and our remit has grown to supporting them in territories including the USA, Europe and Australia.

“There is a massive variety of work with our diverse customer range, and I am confident we will be able to give Oliver and Theo the best possible start as the enter the IT and business world.

“Our ethos at SyTech is to bring enterprise level business solutions for all customers, no matter their size. We are highly technical, supporting business with infrastructure, ensuring cyber security is at the forefront of customer service, and providing growth and communication strategies.”
