The YETI thinks big to offer tailored careers advice in Staffordshire and beyond

Careers expert Peter Small is supporting pupils across Staffordshire as they prepare for adult life.

Peter, of Trentham, has founded The YETI Ltd to offer bespoke careers advice in partnerships with schools and colleges.

“Having worked for several years as a careers advisor in the public sector, I recognised there was a need for more specialised, tailored career advice,” explained Peter. “YETI – Youth Education and Training Initiative – works with senior school staff to develop bespoke, knowledge based programmes for pupils.

“I use a research based approach, analysing job prospects and trends, so that we can give evidence based advice on what career opportunities will be available when pupils complete their education.”

Peter has recently developed programmes for pupils at Abbots Bromley School, working with Year 11 and 12 students. Interest was high in finance careers and engineering.

“There was a lot of interest in careers in engineering which is in line with an upward trend in STEM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing).

“Evidence shows there is a skills gap in this area and there will be many highly technical, well paid roles to fill at degree level by the time these current pupils enter the jobs market.

“We also look at alternatives to applying for university such as school leaver programmes where companies will employ young people and offer training, often to degree level.

“”And I work with younger pupils, for example, providing an Aspirations Day, for Year 7 pupils at a Midlands school and supporting schools at careers events.”

Mrs Louise Dawes of Dormston School, Sedgley, West Midlands, said:

“YETI provide us with a bespoke careers programme. They deliver independent up to date careers information, advice and guidance which is relevant to our students.

“Pete Small provides quality support for students in Years 7 – 11 including one to one student interviews, workshops, assemblies, Morrisby interpretation and feedback and careers fairs. We would highly recommend YETI in supporting CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) in school.”
