Specialist broadband and IT company Keycom has been acquired by a subsidiary of one of the world’s leading telecoms companies.
Keycom, which employs 75 people in Stafford and Wrexham, is now part of UKB Networks (UKBN), a wholly owned UK subsidiary of Hong Kong Telecom Ltd. UKBN is the company through which HKT is investing in the UK telecoms market. HKT is the market leader in telecoms in Hong Kong and has an international network and services business with a global capacity of more than 1,400 Gbps and a presence in 28 countries and 47 cities, including the UK.
“I am delighted that Keycom has joined UKBN,” said Nicholas James, UKBN’s CEO. “Keycom has an excellent reputation and its impressive management and operating team are all remaining with the company. We will invest in Keycom to enable the team to further build on the opportunities for expansion that they have created”.
“We are also excited by the opportunity to develop new services that combine UKBN’s wireless connectivity capability with Keycom’s specialism in fibre and campus solutions to provide innovative new solutions to today’s ever demanding connectivity market.”
Jocelin Harris, the outgoing chairman of Keycom, said: “In the second half of 2014 a number of parties approached the board of Keycom expressing serious interest in acquiring the company. The resulting process culminated in an offer from UKBN, which we recommended to our shareholders. We were impressed by UKBN’s plans for Keycom and wish them and the Keycom team well in developing them together.”
