British troops returning from Germany will benefit from superfast broadband after Media Force, part of specialist broadband group Keycom, fibre enabled the Beacon Barracks site at Stafford.

Media Force won a competitive tender to provide broadband to the 10 new accommodation blocks and two diners on the Beacon Barracks site.

A major redevelopment project has seen the development of new homes and accommodation blocks for British Army regiments relocating from Germany as part of the Borona Project. The arrival of two new regiments will help establish Stafford as one of the major concentrations of the UK armed forces in the future.

More than 600 soldiers resident in the 10 blocks will benefit from the availability of high speed wired and wireless broadband speeds of up to 48 Mbps, more than twice the UK average speed according to Ofcom (average 22.5 Mbps, February 2015).

Meri Braziel, Chief Executive at Keycom, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Army on this major project. Reliable, fast broadband is essential for modern day communication and is a necessity for members of our armed forces who are often far from home and rely on high quality broadband to keep in touch with their families.

“It is particularly pleasing to be involved with the major regeneration programme at Beacon Barracks which will provide an economic boost to Stafford.

“The barracks are just yards from our headquarters on the Staffordshire Technology Park and we’ve watched with interest as the new developments have taken place.”

Media Force works in the UK armed forces sector, providing Wi-Fi and fixed line services to military personnel, visitors and other companies, operating on more than 50 Ministry of Defence sites.
