Seven years after starting a solo business with a budget laptop bought on a credit card, former business banker Tom Wilkinson is building a nationwide reputation for service and expertise.

Tom, of Alton, Staffordshire, now has five staff members in his team at Beta Commercial Finance and has been shortlisted for two prestigious national Moneyfacts Awards.

Beta CF are nominees in the Commercial Mortgage Introducer of the Year and Development Finance Broker of the Year categories and are gearing up for the awards ceremony at Evolution London on April 18.

The Moneyfacts awards are judged on testimonials submitted by the broker and business community to Moneyfacts.

Beta CF are a commercial finance broker providing a service to companies looking to purchase premises, invest in new equipment and scale up their business activities.

“It’s rewarding to be recognised in the Moneyfacts awards as shortlisting is reliant on testimonials from our peers in the UK finance sector,” said Tom. “We work hard to ensure we can provide the best solutions to business looking for funding and on building vital relationships with providers in the commercial funding markets.”

Success in the Moneyfacts awards follows second place in the 2023 National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB) Development Broker award and a shortlisting in the Credit Awards. Last year also saw Tom named in the 2023 Credit 500 Index; a list of the most influential people in the consumer and commercial credit industry, and commended in the Staffordshire University Business Awards, in the Entrepreneur of the Year category.

Beta CF, based at the Old Chapel, Alton, recently recruited their fifth member of staff.  Brogan Alexander, a former Lloyds Bank business manager, joined Beta as a Commercial Finance Manager.

Brogan, from Stafford, said: “I’m really looking forward to my future at Beta. They are a brilliant, experienced team to work with.”

Tom said: “We have a small, tight-knit team of business banking experts, and we work hard to ensure we hire the right people. Brogan has made a fantastic start with Beta.”

An Alton resident, Tom founded Beta having worked for more than a decade in business banking. He explained: “Up until the turn of the century, companies would have had a relationship with their bank business manager and relied solely on him or her as a source of advice and finance. That’s all changed. We provide that strong relationship and search the whole of the market to get the right deal for each client.”

Beta supports companies across the UK and has a particularly strong reputation in Staffordshire and Derbyshire where it has helped many companies to survive, thrive and create new jobs.
