Childhood Cancer Parents Alliance to benefit from campaign to get into the fitness groove

Staffordshire dance studio, the Groove Academy, is challenging local people to get fit while supporting a Stafford based cancer charity.

And Groove Academy owner Kate Beauchamp has pledged to match the £20 course fee, which will go to the Childhood Cancer Parents Alliance, for anyone who reaches their 30-day fitness target.

The 30-Day Fitness Challenge is set to start on 1 March, 2017 at Groove Academy venues, the Northfield Centre, Stafford and St. Dominic’s Social Hall, Stone.

Participants can choose their ultimate end goal but must give £20 for the Childhood Cancer Parents Alliance and complete a set of challenges.

These include:

  • Drink one litre of water a day
  • Complete daily abdominal and press up challenges
  • Take two Groove Academy classes a week – three if you are already a Groove Academy regular
  • Rest on Sundays

“To make the challenge as flexible as possible we want people to set their own goal,” said Kate.

“For example, this could be to get into an old pair of jeans, lose weight or improve strength.

“If people complete their challenge they will get a month’s free Groove membership and I will match their £20 donation to the charity.”

Participants can choose from a range of classes such as Salsa, TAPfit, Zumba and Rock n Roll.

Kate added: “The Childhood Cancer Parents Alliance’s office is based in Stafford and Rachael Olley, the charity’s Operations Manager, is a regular at the Groove Academy. It is an extremely worthwhile cause.

“Alongside the charity element is fitness. Evidence proves that if we can get people to exercise regularly for a month, it can become a habit and that can bring many health benefits.”

Rachael Olley said: “I am delighted that Kate has chosen to support the charity, we rely heavily on fundraising and donations to continue our valuable work with families of children with cancer. I joined Groove Academy over a year ago and absolutely love the classes and the friends I have made so it is great to join forces on this. I will be taking part in the challenge myself.”
